IEE: A Continued Commitment to Building Innovations with Mitsubishi Electric

With 50 years of experience creating quality designs and technical solutions, IEE, in partnership with Mitsubishi Electric, has made a commitment to build innovations that will stand the test of relevance and sustainability for elevators and escalators in the Philippines.

The operations of International Elevator & Escalator, Inc. began on April 1, 1969.

1970s

During the 1970s, IEE was able to install the first elevators rated at 210 mpm at BPI Building (now PBCom Building) in Makati. As the company began to progress, IEE launched its first AC/R business unit in 1978 and started the local manufacture of selected elevator components the following year.

1980s

To further boost the development of elevators and escalators, IEE then decided to get a signed service agreement covering the supply of manpower to Mitsubishi Electric Saudi, Ltd. (MELSA). At the same time, the company then transferred to a new office building at Cupang, Muntinlupa on February 5.

In 1981, IEE registered as an exporter of technical and personnel management services with the BOI under RA 6135. With a few innovations, talking elevators were successfully installed at the Menton Plaza Building (now Pilipinas Shell, Makati) in 1981. Moreover, IEE was also registered with the Philippine Overseas Construction Board in January.

In 1984, 240 mpm elevators were installed at the PCI Bank Tower 1, Makati. In the following year, the company finally introduced the first installation of the Variable Voltage Variable Frequency (VVVF) elevator in the Philippines at Caltex (Phil.), Padre Faura Street, Manila in 1985.

IEE was also able to install three elevator units for the extension of the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Saipan in 1986. As the decade was about to end, IEE’s AAA license was granted by the Philippine Contractors Accreditation Board. Due to continuous success, the company opened its south Sector Service Branch on the ground floor of the Sunshine Condominium in Makati.

1990s

IEE started a fruitful decade by setting up their branch office at V. Rama St., Guadalupe, Cebu City. Afterward, elevator installers were deployed to help Mitsubishi Electric Corporation (MELCO) install elevators at the Japan Tower Building in Paris, France. In the next two years, IEE’s Main Office Annex Building and the 4th service branch office in Manila were constructed and opened.

In the late 1990s, double-deck elevators in the Philippines were first installed at One San Miguel Place, Pasig, as well as the only inclined elevators at Belleview Condominium, Tagaytay, in 1996. The VRF AC System was launched by IEE’s AC/R Division.

Moreover, Diamond Vision was installed on its first full-color large-scale video display system spanning 100 SQ for Image One in 1998, now located at the Cultural Center of the Philippines. Due to the company’s commitment to providing quality products and services, the ISO-9001 Certificate was awarded by Certification International as the 1990s came to an end.

2000s

After many accomplishments during the 1990s, IEE then decided to include a hand dryer business venture in its Air Conditioning Division. Not only that, but the Elevator and Escalator division ventured into Elevator Modernization and inaugurated the first elevator training center in 2006.

2010s

In 2011, IEE established the International Elevator and Equipment Foundation, Inc. (IEEFI). Moreover, the company’s Air Conditioning Division also ventured into the ventilator business the following year.

With a continuous commitment to innovation, IEE was able to win the Architects’ Choice Awards in 2014, making BCI Asia’s preferred brand for lifts, escalators, and walkalators. To add, the expansion of IEE’s training center was inaugurated on September 14, and the company entered into the Factory Automation Business in 2016.

In 2016, IEE had a Miteku Official Mascot Launch. The idea of Midori Tekunoroji or Miteku, which means green technology, was brought to life to teach children how to use Elevators and Escalators properly. After this, the Hydronics System (Chillers) Climaveneta product lineup was launched under the Air Conditioning/Refrigeration Division in 2017.

2020s - Present

In the 2020s, IEE started its Building Automation Business and proceeded to set up new branch offices at ASEANA and Bonifacio Global City (BGC).

To date, the company continues to enjoy huge success as it continues to branch out to key cities outside of Metro Manila and across the Philippines, to provide quality escalator and elevator equipment and services to the Filipino people.
